A civilian rider is any person not commissioned as a police officer who rides in a police vehicle for the purpose of observing patrol activities. It is the policy of the Department to allow civilian riders so that interested persons may better understand the police and their function. By applying for a civilian ride, you agree to allow the BDPD to run a personal Records and Wants Check, and a Criminal History Check. All applications must be approved by the Police Commander. Civilian riders must sign a Rider Waiver on the date of the ride, prior to riding in the patrol vehicle.
